Services for Parents
We are committed to working in partnership with parents, and to providing a high quality, evidence-based speech and language therapy service to children experiencing difficulties in the following areas :
- Understanding spoken language
- Expressing ideas and using sentences
- Pronouncing words and sounds appropriately for their age
- Interacting socially
- Choosing words
- Eating and Drinking
- Communication difficulties associated with special needs
We conduct a full assessment of a child's speech and language needs, including taking a detailed case history. Following the assessment, the speech and language therapist will discuss with parents the most appropriate package of care, which could include :
- A school visit
- Advice and monitoring
- Home or school programmes
- Regular therapy sessions
In addition, SLC therapists can provide support and advice for parents whose children are undergoing statutory assessment (the statement process).
The SLC team do not offer a service for all types of communication difficulties in children as we believe our clients deserve a specialist speech and language therapy service, but we may be able to signpost parents to other specialist speech and language therapy colleagues when necessary.
